Business Expansion Approved in Hobart Business Park

Calpipe has received Hobart Plan Commission approval to expand its Midwest master distribution center in NorthWind Crossings business park, a building it just moved into last year.

Terry Levin, with the business park’s developer, Becknell Industrial, said Calpipe needs more docks and additional drive-in doors.

“There’s no change to the (planned unit development). They’re just adding more docks and two more bays, at another 21,000 square feet,” City Planner Sergio Mendoza said.

“The site was built for future expansion,” Mendoza added.
Levin said the building is currently 84,415 square feet.

Calpipe provides conduit products for corrosive environments, according to a company press release. Its Hobart facility includes warehouse and office space, a customer training center, and on site research, product development and testing area.

Levin said Becknell has been successful in quickly finding tenants for the spec buildings it’s constructed at NorthWind Crossings, located off Marcella, just south of 61st Avenue.

“We’re running out of property within the park that can accommodate some of the 150,000-square-foot buildings,” Levin said.

The company is now looking at building a spec building across Marcella, in Merrillville, where Levin said it owns more than 12 acres.
