More Development Coming to NorthWind

HOBART — A new development is planned for the NorthWind Crossings business park.

Paul Thurston, of Becknell Industrial, the developer of NorthWind Crossings, said an 124,800-square-foot structure will be built at 2101 Northwind Parkway for NB Coatings. The company, which produces coatings for plastics in the automotive industry, has a production and warehouse facility in Lansing, Thurston said.

He said the Hobart structure, east of Mississippi Street near Interstate 65, will serve as a warehouse and distribution center for NB Coatings, which has experienced substantial growth in recent years, so the company can increase production in Lansing.

Thurston said groundbreaking could be at the end of the month or in early June for the new building. Construction could take about six to seven months to complete.

The project will create about 60 construction jobs, and union labor will be used. Thurston said 20 employees will work in the new facility after it’s built, but he expects employment to grow as business there increases.

To assist with the project, the City Council approved real estate property tax abatement at the site.

Thurston said Becknell agreed to a condition in the abatement that indicates Becknell will not appeal its property taxes for that site as long they are consistent with what has been projected for the property and new building.
