Illinois developer eyes new McKinney business park

An Illinois-based industrial developer is headed to McKinney with plans for a new business park. Becknell Industrial has been in business since 1990 and has more than 34 million square feet of office, warehouse and distribution space nationwide. Becknell has previously built warehouse projects in southern Dallas, the San Antonio and Houston areas and in the Rio Grande Valley.

Now the big industrial builder is eyeing a new industrial park in McKinney, east of U.S. Highway 75 near University Drive. The development on McIntyre Road would include more than 525,000 square feet of space in three buildings, according to planning documents filed with the state. The business park will cost more than $41 million and is scheduled to start later this year. Craig Kouri Architects designed the development.

McKinney has seen a flurry of recent industrial building development, with projects in the works by Transwestern, Stonemont Financial Group and Core5 Industrial Partners. Dallas-Fort Worth is the country’s fastest-growing industrial market, with more than 50 million square feet of buildings under construction.
