Derek Hawkins

SVP - Development

Derek Hawkins was named Senior Vice President – Development of Becknell Industrial in January 2019.

Mr. Hawkins joined the Becknell team in 2012 and is responsible for the execution of both acquisition and development opportunities that help drive the growth of the Company’s portfolio. His focus is on build-to-suit pursuits, leasing of speculative warehouse space, and identification of strategic land parcels to accommodate future growth. During Derek’s tenure at Becknell, he has been involved in the execution of transactions in excess of $990 million and 18.5 million square feet and has negotiated leases with a total value in excess of $545 million.

Prior to joining Becknell, Derek spent 8 years in commercial real estate financial planning and analysis. The last 6 years he served as a Senior Financial Analyst at Simon Property Group, a Real Estate Investment Trust with a market capitalization in excess of $60 billion. His primarily responsibilities included financial analysis and investment committee presentations for redevelopments of regional malls within the portfolio along with underwriting of acquisitions of new malls. Derek started his real estate career in 2001 with Beazer Homes as a Controller for land acquisition and development activities.

Derek is a 2001 graduate from Ball State University with a bachelor of science in accounting. He is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and is on the board of directors with St. Mary’s Child Center. Derek was a finalist for the 2016 Junior Achievement of Central Indiana “Indy’s Best and Brightest” award, recognizing next generation leaders in the Indianapolis community.
